Important Precautions
1. Piston rings are divided into three layers: the top ring (the first intake ring), the second ring (the second intake ring), and the oil ring (the bottom combined ring). They must not be installed in the wrong order or reversed.
2. All ring openings must not be aligned. They should be misaligned by 120° to 180° to avoid the position of the piston pin and the intake/exhaust valves.
3. Before installation, clean the piston ring grooves, cylinder walls, and piston, apply a small amount of engine oil for lubrication, and do not install them dry.
4. Ring opening markings: The side with the lettering, dotting, or chamfer should be facing upwards (in the direction of the piston top).
I. Classification of Piston Rings (Quick Identification)
1. The first ring (top ring): Silver-white chrome-plated ring, with the highest hardness, smooth edges, and no chamfer or narrow chamfer.
2. The second ring (second ring): Black/dark cast iron ring, with a chamfer on the inner side, rough texture.
3. The third ring (oil ring): Combined (upper scraper + lower scraper + middle expansion liner), the structure is the loosest.
II. Step-by-step Installation Process
Step 1: Install the oil ring (the bottom one)
1. First, insert the oil ring liner (wave elastic ring) into the bottom oil ring groove of the piston, lay it flat.
2. Insert the upper scraper and lower scraper, and secure them on the outer side of the liner.
3. The two scraper ring openings of the oil ring should be misaligned, not aligned with the interface of the liner.
Step 2: Install the second ring (middle ring)
1. The ring body has engraved numbers/letters, small dots, and chamfered side. It should face upwards.
2. Gently pinch the opening and slowly insert it into the middle ring groove, avoid bending or deforming by force.
3. The opening position should avoid the exhaust valve area.
Step 3: Install the first ring (top ring)
1. Similarly: The marked and shiny side should face upwards, do not install upside down.
2. Insert it into the first ring groove, the opening of the first ring should be misaligned by more than 120° with the opening of the second ring.
Step 4: Ring Opening Misalignment Standards (Core Key)
• Top ring opening ↔ Second ring opening: Misaligned by 120°
• Second ring opening ↔ Oil ring opening: Misaligned by 120°
• All ring openings must not be aligned with the piston pin holes on both sides, and should avoid the intake/exhaust windows.
Installation Requirements: Piston ring expansion pliers, piston ring compressor, engine assembly oil. Manual installation is prone to damaging the ring openings.
