A motorcycle is a two-wheeled vehicle that maintains balance by inertia. Riding it on the road is inevitably accompanied by the danger of falling. Some people ride in a laid-back and life-conscious way, have good skills and quick reactions, so it's very difficult for them to fall off their bikes. However, some people, due to various factors such as height, bike weight, skills, reactions, personality and road conditions, will experience falls to some extent. It can be said that almost no one doesn't fall off their bike.
Therefore, the guard bar used for motorcycle engines can provide certain protection for the engine, transmission system and important parts, minimizing the damage caused by a fall and increasing the possibility of the vehicle being able to return home by itself after being lifted. This article lists the advantages and disadvantages of installing guard bars as follows.
The engine guard bar is a set of metal tubular components that protect the engine. It can prevent the engine housing from cracking, the gearshift and brake rods, and the pedals from breaking to a certain extent when reversing in place or crashing. Some motorcycles come with guard bars from the factory, but most need to be installed by the riders themselves later.
The benefits of installing guard bars
■ Protect the engine
It is easier to help up a fallen vehicle
Reduce the risk of getting injured by wrapping feet in
The riders feel more at ease
The disadvantages of installing guard bars
■ Affect the aesthetic appeal of the original vehicle design
■ Increase the vehicle weight
The downward pressing Angle becomes smaller when cornering
■ It can only reduce damage but cannot avoid complete non-damage
Engine anti-drop block (ball)
This anti-drop block or anti-drop ball has a different function from the engine guard bar. It shares the same concept of protecting the engine as the guard bar, but unlike the guard bar that "withstands" impacts, the anti-drop block's role is to disperse the impact force during the rubbing or sliding process, making it more suitable for fully enclosed models where it is difficult to install guard bars. Some manufacturers will also specifically point out in the instruction manual that installing anti-fall blocks (balls) may cause more severe damage in certain crash scenarios than not installing them. So in principle, the protective effect of the bar guard is better than that of the anti-drop block (ball).
Subframe
The subframe is designed to enhance the overall rigidity of the vehicle body and improve the stability during cornering and braking. Therefore, it cannot be installed and used for the purpose of protecting the engine.
