What should I do if I add too much engine oil to my motorcycle?
Release date:2025.07.03

If too much engine oil is added and the car gets hot, its volume will expand, which will cause problems such as increased pressure in the oil chamber, increased operating resistance, high engine temperature, reduced power and incomplete clutch disengagement.

There is too much engine oil. The crankcase has a vent pipe. If too much engine oil is added, it will cause oil leakage. The crankcase pressure is high, and the various oil seals on the crankcase are very likely to leak oil due to such high oil pressure. In addition, it also affects heat dissipation, and the resistance of the crankshaft is large, thereby increasing fuel consumption.

2. When the pressure is too high, faults such as oil leakage from oil seals or vent pipes may occur. Excessive oil may even seep into the combustion chamber, burn and form blue smoke from the exhaust pipe, creating the illusion of oil burning.

When too much engine oil is injected into the engine, the flow resistance of the oil inside the engine increases, and the internal gas pressure rises at the same time, forming a reaction force that consumes the engine's output power. When the piston moves down, it is difficult to scrape, which will accelerate cylinder wear and reduce power.

4. Engine oil can easily be discharged from the air pipe or the air port of the carburetor. If too much engine oil is added to the air filter connected to the engine's vent pipe, it may flow into the air filter, causing insufficient air intake and affecting combustion, which in turn affects power and fuel consumption.

5. If the pressure is too high, it may also rush into the combustion chamber, causing carbon deposits on the spark plugs. When the motorcycle is idling, it is easy to extinguish the fire.

It is recommended that the upper limit of the engine oil injection be controlled within two-thirds of the mesh area of the dipstick.

7. If too much engine oil has been added, it needs to be taken out. A simple way is to insert an old syringe into a plastic tube used for intravenous drip to suck out the oil, or drain the oil through the oil drain bolt until it reaches the upper limit of the oil dipstick. Some netizens have also invented the method of removing the press head of the detergent to take out the excess oil.
