First, the composition of oil

Two, the classification of oil

Oil is usually divided into three categories, full synthetic oil, synthetic oil (usually refers to semi-synthetic), mineral oil; The base oil of a fully synthetic oil is synthetic. The molecular size and shape of the oil are almost the same, so the fully synthetic oil has better lubrication and longer service life. The base oil of mineral oil is extracted from petroleum. The molecular size and shape of oil are irregular, so the performance of mineral oil is average and the service life is relatively short.

Three, the industry standard of oil selection

To choose the right oil, first of all, you have to understand the industry's four giants:

API: American Petroleum Institute, API grade represents engine oil quality grade

The performance of high-level products is better than that of low-level products, that is, high-level products can replace low-level products, and vice versa.

SAE: Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE grade stands for lubricant viscosity grade

Now lubricating oil is more complex viscosity, such as 5W-40; The number in front of "W" reflects the low temperature performance of oil. The smaller the number, the better the low temperature performance. The 0W series products common on the market can be used at least in the environment of minus 35℃. The number after "W" represents the viscosity of the oil at 100℃, the higher the number, the higher the viscosity, vice versa.

As products with low viscosity can save fuel better, more and more automobile companies choose to use products with low viscosity. For example, Volkswagen has gradually shifted to products with 0W-20 viscosity.

ACEA: The European Automobile Manufacturers Association, ACEA grade also indicates the quality grade of lubricants

A growing number of European carmakers or those with European engine technology prefer the ACEA standard; Because the situation in the European car market is different, the products that meet ACEA's specification are all gas and diesel general-purpose products (except the E series for heavy trucks).

JASO: Japan Locomotive Standard Organization, MA1\MA2\MB is JASO's classification standard for locomotive oil.

MB standard oil suitable for dry clutch CVT motorcycle use;

MA1 for small displacement locomotive;

The MA2 is used for all displacement locomotives, especially for large displacement locomotives.

Five, the reference principle of oil selection

Respect the original factory oil recommendation: the vehicle production factory will clarify the use requirements of vehicle oil after the vehicle is put on the market, including quality grade and viscosity grade, which can be queried in the vehicle maintenance manual;

The principle of "high is not low" : high-level products can replace low-level products, and vice versa can not be used; So the quality grade of the selected oil should be consistent with the original oil or higher than the original oil level;

Oil viscosity selection principle:

(1) Old vehicles or vehicles with long mileage can properly improve the viscosity of oil used to increase engine sealing;

(2) For vehicles with poor road conditions and continuous mountain roads, the oil viscosity can be appropriately adjusted to ensure the lubrication stability of the engine at high temperature;

(3) Racing cars or vehicles running at high speed for a long time, to choose high viscosity products to reduce the impact of high-speed engine shear and high temperature on oil products;

(4) Do not arbitrarily reduce the oil viscosity, to avoid abnormal wear caused by poor lubrication to the engine.

Six, the misunderstanding of oil

Use hand twist method to determine the size of oil viscosity (error) :

Reason: The viscosity of oil needs to be detected and judged by a professional detector. The method of hand twisting will make people make wrong judgments. For example, if the product has the same viscosity, the vision of synthetic lubricating oil is thinner

Determine whether to change the oil by the particles adhered to the oil ruler (wrong) :

Reason: Because of the role of dispersant in the oil, it is difficult to form large particles in the oil, there is no adhesive on the oil ruler, then the oil can continue to use, this judgment is very easy to make the vehicle due to the oil service cycle is too long, resulting in abnormal engine wear and other problems, causing irreversible losses.

Thicker oil protects the engine better (false) :

Reason: Oil not only has wear reduction protection function, but also has auxiliary heat dissipation, clean lubrication system and other functions. Due to poor liquidity, products with large viscosity will affect engine heat dissipation, reduce the cleaning effect of lubrication system, and lead to engine fuel consumption increase and other problems.

Can use car oil instead of motorcycle oil (error) :

Reason: in addition to ensure the normal operation of the engine, but also to protect the motorcycle gearbox, clutch, so can not use car oil to replace the use of motorcycle oil; In addition, because of engine power, oil replacement cycle and other problems, motorcycle oil can not replace the use of car oil.
